Programme proposals must be submitted by 18 September 2009. Proposals to continue existing programmes will be processed as they are received so we recommend apply early. The new schedule will commence from 5 October. Proposers of new programme ideas that we take forward will hear from Sheffield Live within two weeks of the deadline. New programmes will be expected to launch by the end of October and will receive training and production support.

Getting involved with Sheffield Live!

Sheffield Live! is a volunteer run radio station. So we need YOU to get involved. At Sheffield Live! we learn by doing, so what you put in you get out. It’s a place where you can share what’s best about you and where the people are friendly and the atmosphere always exciting.

There are currently three main areas in which you can get involved - production, studio/duty management and reception, but others offers of help are always welcome. No previous experience is necessary, though volunteers must be reliable and willing to make a regular commitment.

If you are interested then you can ring 0114 2814082 to find out more information or alternatively email info@sheffieldlive.org

Production

Sheffield Live! is a public access community broadcaster. All our programmes are made by volunteer producers, presenters and reporters. Do you want to get involved in programme making? We update our programme schedule on a seasonal basis but we are always open to receive new programme proposals and ideas.

We also have opportunities to get involved in our core programme strands – the “Sheffield Uprising” breakfast show and the lunchtime “Communities Live!” slot. Get in touch with details of your interests and your previous experience, if any, in media production or, if you have a new programme idea, contact us and ask for a programme proposal form.

Studio/Duty Managing

Sheffield Live! currently broadcasts 7 days a week for 19 hours a day, both via the Internet and 93.2fm.

Duty managing involves listening to the broadcast and monitoring the content and sound quality; assisting presenters and guests in the studio; sorting out any technical/sound problems that may arise. Duty managers must be over 18, willing to work unsociable hours and have the initiative to work on their own.

In order that we can continue broadcasting, volunteer duty managers are vital to Sheffield Live! Volunteering gives you the chance to be part of the Sheffield Live! team, assisting presenters and guests and learning and putting to use technical skills.

.

Reception

This involves working on the front-of-house reception desk. You will be the first point of contact for both personal visits and telephone callers.

The main duties include taking messages for members of staff, providing information to the public, logging service users onto the station’s computer network and assisting them with computer help where necessary.

Reception work is available in either 2 or 4 hour slots. Receptionists must be aged 16 or over, and ready to welcome a diverse group of people. Volunteering gives you the chance to be part of the team and learn useful office and reception skills.
